STERLING EVENTS ANNOUNCES PLANS TO RENOVATE HISTORIC BARN AT KINDERTON
Clemmons, NC (November 20, 2009) Sterling Events, based in Clemmons, NC, announced today its plans to renovate the historic Win-Mock Barn at Kinderton and transform the structure into an upscale venue for weddings, corporate meetings, and social events.
Sterling plans to renovate the original 17,000 square foot dairy barn and construct a 12,000 square foot addition near the barn to house its offices and warehouse facilities.
The barn is located inside Kinderton, a high-end retail and commercial center located on the eastern edge of Davie County in the town of Bermuda Run, NC. Kinderton is marketed by Ellen Moore of Coldwell Banker Commercial, Triad Realtors.
Named for its location, 9 miles west of Winston-Salem and 9 miles east of Mocksville, Win-Mock Farm survives from the estate built in the late 1920's by S. Clay Williams, a former president of RJ Reynolds Tobacco Co. The dairy barn and surrounding buildings have been nominated for The National Register of Historic Places under criteria set by the NC Historic Preservation Office and the US Park Service.
Sterling is currently completing its feasibility study of restoring the dairy barn, a smaller granary barn, and an adjoining milk processing building. Upon successful completion of this study, we will begin our renovation in early 2010 commented Wayne Thomas, President of Sterling Events. This has been a two year process to obtain engineering, architectural, historic, and other critical data commented Thomas. The Kinderton team has been very, very helpful to us. We could not have attempted this project without their full support and cooperation he added. The barn and office complex is set for completion in March, 2011.
William A. Burnette, Managing Partner of the Hillsdale Group, the developers behind Kinderton commented, we are delighted that Sterling Events is taking on this beautiful project. Saving and restoring these barns fits well with the future of Kinderton and provides a great venue for Sterling Events and our entire community.
Michael West of West & Stem Architecture was recently selected as the lead architect to direct a full restoration that maintains the structures original integrity with updates for guest safety and comfort. The property would house multiple rental spaces for both private and corporate functions, with the highlight being its stunning, high ceiling loft space in the dairy barn which could accommodate large parties.
